1974 Lou Brock Steal Record
Brock's 118 stolen bases in 1974.
Lou Brock came to St. Louis from the Cubs in a trade for pitcher Ernie Broglio. Best known for stealing bases, he led the National League in steals eight times in the nine years from 1966 to 1974. In 1974 he set a new major league single-season record of 118 stolen bases and finished second in the NL MVP voting. Rickey Henderson broke the mark with 130 in 1982. Brock was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1985, his first year of eligibility.
