Highlight (band)

South Korean boy band formed in 2009, renamed Highlight in 2017.

Beast initially received attention as a "recycled group" due to members' prior lack of industry success, but later achieved significant commercial success and critical accolades.[1] Cube Entertainment formed the South Korean boy band originally called Beast, which later became known as Highlight.[2]

Making and release

Cube Entertainment introduced the group as B2ST in August 2009 via the TV documentary series MTV B2ST.[3] Beast released their second EP, Shock of the New Era, on March 1, 2010, and achieved their first music show number-one win later that month.[4] The five remaining members launched their own label, Around Us Entertainment, on December 15, 2016, after their contracts with Cube expired.[5] On February 24, 2017, the group announced their new name, Highlight.[6]

Highlight released their third EP, The Blowing, on May 3, 2021, following a two-and-a-half year hiatus after all members completed military service.[7] Beast debuted on October 15, 2009, with the extended play titled "Beast Is the B2ST" after changing their name from B2ST.[8] Beast's first Korean full-length album, "Fiction and Fact", reached the number-one position on the Gaon Album Chart after its release on May 17, 2011.[9] "Hard to Love, How to Love", Beast's second Korean studio album, was put out on July 19, 2013.[10]

What the cited sources add

The same article notes that leader Yoon Doo-joon entered the military in August 2018, with bandmates Yang Yo-seop, Lee Ki-Kwang and Son Dong-woon following in 2019.[7] A Korea JoongAng Daily article from 2019 states that Yong Jun-hyung quit Highlight on March 14, 2019, after confessing to having seen illicit videos taken by singer Jung Joon-young in 2015.[11]
