JYP Entertainment's boy group Got7 made their debut in January 2014.[1][2]

Making and release

JYP Entertainment began working on a new international boy group after 2PM's 2008 debut.[3] In 2009, b-boy Lim Jae-beom and dancer Park Jin-young ranked first in open auditions and began idol training.[3] They debuted as the duo JJ Project in 2012 under the stage names JB and Junior, later changed to Jay B and Jinyoung.[3] The debut line-up initially consisted of five people: Jay B, Jinyoung, Youngjae, Mark Tuan, and Jackson Wang.[4]

The group's final name "Got7" was chosen in December 2013, originating from J.Y. Park's working name "Got6" for a planned group with g.o.d.[5] Got7 debuted on January 16, 2014, performing "Girls Girls Girls" on Mnet's M Countdown.[6] In September 2013, BamBam and Yugyeom were added to the existing five-member lineup.[7] After their contract ended, Got7 left JYP Entertainment in January 2021.[8][9]

What the cited sources add

The Korea Herald reported in June 2014 that Got7's second EP showcase would be exclusively for "IGOT7" fan club members.[2] The same article described Got7 as a "performance-heavy boy band emphasizing gravity-defying B-boy- and martial arts-influenced dance moves"[2] An interview with Youngjae published by Bollywood Hungama in November 2021 confirmed that after leaving JYP Entertainment, all seven members ensured they would continue as a group.[10]
