JYP Entertainment's Park Jin-young created One Day, an eleven-member South Korean band. After initially performing together, the group split into two: 2AM, which focuses on ballads, and 2PM, which emphasizes dance. Since their separation, members from both bands have frequently reunited for YouTube videos, TV shows, song collaborations, and joint performances.

Collaborative work

2AM and 2PM, both under the same label, regularly crossed paths on YouTube content and TV shows like Win Win, Star King, Star Golden Bell, and Strong Heart. They also worked on songs together and shared the stage during JYP Nation concerts. In 2009, as part of a project for 2PM’s variety show Wild Bunny, 2AM’s Jo Kwon and Lim Seul-ong joined 2PM’s Ok Taec-yeon, Jang Wooyoung, and Hwang Chan-sung to film a parody music video of Brown Eyed Girls’ “Abracadabra,” performing under the name Dirty Eyed Girls. The following year, Jo Kwon and Ok Taec-yeon were both cast in the second season of SBS’s Family Outing, while Jo Kwon and Nichkhun appeared together as cast members on MBC’s We Got Married season two, occasionally sharing episodes.

Also in 2010, 2AM guested at 2PM’s first concert, Don’t Stop Can’t Stop, and Hwang Chan-sung contributed to 2AM’s song “To Her” from their debut EP Can’t Let You Go Even If I Die. Near the end of that year, both groups joined other JYP Nation artists on the single “This Christmas,” released ahead of the label’s 2010 concert. In 2011, Jo Kwon and Lim Seul-ong appeared as guests on the August 20 episode of 2PM’s variety show 2PM Show! From April 3 to September 25, 2012, 2AM and 2PM co-hosted a Japanese TV program on Tokyo MX called Wander Trip, where members traveled across Japan and explored local culture.

That same April, a Japanese documentary titled Beyond the One Day ~Story of 2PM and 2AM~ was announced, featuring both groups. Its trailer came out on April 13, and the film premiered on June 30. The documentary’s theme song, “One Day,” was released as a digital single on July 4, credited to both 2AM and 2PM, and it reached number five on the Oricon Singles Chart. The single also included a B-side track called “No Goodbyes,” and a live version of 2PM’s “Angel” from their debut single Hottest Time of the Day appeared as a CD-only bonus track.
