Making and release
Several members had entertainment industry experience before appearing on Produce 101, including Park Ji-hoon as a child actor and Hwang Min-hyun as a member of NU'EST.[3] Wanna One signed with YMC Entertainment, which had previously managed season one's winning group I.O.I.[4][5] To conclude Produce 101, a final concert was held at Seoul's Olympic Hall on July 1 and 2, 2017, featuring the group.[6][5] At Gocheok Sky Dome on August 7, 2017, Wanna One held their debut event called Wanna One Premier Show-Con.[6][7]
On August 8, 2017, the group's first extended play, 1×1=1 (To Be One), came out, featuring the lead single "Energetic".[6] The repackaged album 1-1=0 (Nothing Without You), with "Beautiful" as its title track, was issued by Wanna One on November 13.[8] Wanna One's management contract with YMC Entertainment ended on May 31, 2018; beginning June 1, the group came under Swing Entertainment, a firm created solely for them.[9][10] On November 19, 2018, Wanna One put out their first studio album, 1¹¹=1 (Power of Destiny), whose title track was "Spring Breeze".[11]
The group's contract concluded on December 31, 2018; their final activities were a concert named Therefore 2019 at Gocheok Sky Dome.[12]
What the cited sources add
A June 2017 report by Jon Maala stated that Wanna One had signed commercial endorsement deals and were preparing for their debut.[5] The same report noted that an Innisfree representative said the group was selected as models because their distinct personalities would highlight the masks' strengths.[5] The Korea Herald reported on August 8, 2017 that Wanna One became the first K-pop rookie to perform at Gocheok Sky Dome, where acts such as BTS and EXO had previously held concerts.[7] The Korea Herald also reported that the group would stay together until the end of 2018 under YMC Entertainment and CJ E&M.[7]
