BoyNextDoor is a six-member boy band formed under KOZ Entertainment, a label founded by rapper-producer Zico in 2018.[1][2] The group's name reflects a "casual, friendly" approach to the public, like "boys living next door"[3][4] They debuted on May 30, 2023, as the first group launched by KOZ Entertainment.[3][2]

Making and release

KOZ announced on May 8, 2023, that the debut would be a three-track single album titled Who!, with all tracks promoted as singles.[5] Their first EP, Why.., was released on September 30, 2023, and debuted at number 162 on the Billboard 200.[6] The second EP, How?, was released on April 15, 2024, and debuted atop the Circle Album Chart.[7] BoyNextDoor debuted in Japan on July 10, 2024, with the maxi single "And," which entered the Oricon Daily Single Ranking at number one.[8]

Their third EP, 19.99, was released on September 9, 2024, and surpassed one million cumulative sales by October 25.[9] In February 2023, Zico announced his intention to debut a boy band under KOZ Entertainment, with a debut targeted for the first half of that year.[10][11] An animated video introducing the group BoyNextDoor was uploaded to YouTube on April 16, 2023.[10]

What the cited sources add

A Korea JoongAng Daily article from April 2023 stated that KOZ Entertainment announced the group would debut on May 30.[3] The same article explained that the agency described the name as meaning the band would be "friendly and approachable, like boys living next door"[3] A Korea Herald article from May 2023 reported that the group held a press showcase in Seoul and performed the three songs from Who! for the first time.[2] A March 2024 Korea Herald article stated that the second EP How? would complete a trilogy of first love stories that began with Who!.[12]

A November 2023 Korea JoongAng Daily article noted that BoyNextDoor landed its first album on the Billboard 100 albums chart 112 days after debut and won Rookie of the Year awards.[1]
