Stellar Dawn
Unreleased browser-based sci-fi MMORPG from Jagex.
Last updated
Stellar Dawn was a browser-based science fiction massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) under development by UK game developer Jagex. Originally conceived as MechScape, the project was cancelled and reworked before being formally announced as Stellar Dawn in July 2010, but it was never released to the public.
Background
After cancellation, the project was overhauled and renamed Stellar Dawn. It was formally announced on 14 July 2010 with the release of the official website, and the first official teaser was released on 10 August 2010.
The game was expected to be released in 2011, according to the ETA on the website. However, in March 2012, Jagex stated that development would be paused so that 2012 could be their biggest year with the release of Transformers Universe and improvements to RuneScape, and that they would review Stellar Dawn's status after Transformers Universe launched. As of 11 August 2015, Jagex employee Mod Mat K stated on Reddit that the official line was that the game had been put on hold indefinitely, and that much of the game, including its engine, was intended to be reused from MechScape, though everything in Stellar Dawn was reinvented except some concept art.
