Perpetuum
A robot-piloting MMORPG with real-time skill progression.
Last updated
Perpetuum is a persistent-world science fiction MMORPG developed by Avatar Creations Ltd. Players pilot customizable robots on islands connected by teleports, engaging in professions such as mining, combat, and manufacturing. The game was notable for its real-time character advancement system and player-driven economy.
Setting
The game is set after 2208, when humanity discovered technology to create tiny particle-sized wormholes. Probes mapped extrasolar planets and found Nia, home to synthetic robot-like lifeforms with unique energy production methods. Earth-based IT specialists hacked the alien information system, taking over several lifeforms and establishing a base.
The aliens, already divided by a long war, could not respond quickly. Human agents now control robots remotely in the Perpetuum Project, aiming to transfer energy back to Earth. Nia has three alien factions: the Pelistal Empire (green, missile launchers), the Nuimqol Union (blue, railguns), and the Thelodica Clan (yellow, lasers).
Players and communities
Players can engage in solo activities, but most are better suited to groups. Corporations, similar to guilds, are led by a chief executive officer (CEO) who controls assets. Other roles include finances, storage, production, promotion, recruitment, and diplomacy.
