Eve Online
A single-universe space MMORPG with player-driven economy and warfare.
Last updated
In Eve Online, a single, persistent game world hosts players who participate in unplanned economic rivalry, armed conflict, and political maneuvering.[1] Players can explore 7,800 star systems within the game, which is famous for its vast scope and intricate player-driven interactions.[2][1]
Making and release
Eve Online was developed and published by Fenris Creations.[2] From May to December 2003, it was published by Simon & Schuster Interactive in North America and by Crucial Entertainment in the United Kingdom.[3] After that period, CCP purchased the rights and began self-publishing via digital distribution.[3] A January 22, 2008 announcement confirmed that Steam would begin distributing Eve Online.[3]
Atari brought a boxed retail version of the game back to store shelves on March 10, 2009.[3] By February 2013, the subscriber count for Eve Online had surpassed 500,000.[3] A restricted free-to-play option for Eve Online was introduced on November 11, 2016.[3]
What the cited sources add
The EVE Universe account describes the Caldari State as a nation built on corporate capitalism, run by eight megacorporations that divide territory between themselves.[4] The same source notes that the corporate-controlled marriage system segregates members of opposing genders, and same-sex marriage is neither recognized nor legal within Caldari borders.[4] The "Jove" page explains that the Jove revealed themselves to all races of the core empires in AD 23192, a couple of years after mutual contact was established between the Amarr, Caldari, Gallente, and Minmatar.[5] The "Minmatar" page reports that the Amarr stabilized a rebellion by establishing the Ammatar Mandate, a puppet state nominally ruled by the collaborating Nefantar tribe.[6]
That source also states that the Starkmanir Tribe was considered lost for centuries until a surviving population was discovered in YC110.[6]
