Alex Smith

Alexander "Alec" Smith (1875–1954) was a Scottish footballer who played as an outside left for Rangers and Scotland. Born in Darvel, Ayrshire, he joined Rangers from Darvel F.C. in April 1894.

Smith stayed at Ibrox for 21 years until retiring in 1915, his only professional club. He made 642 competitive appearances, the fourth-highest total in the club's history, and scored 200 goals. He was part of the treble-winning teams of 1896–97, 1899–1900 and 1910–11 and played 69 of the 74 matches of the four consecutive titles from 1898 to 1902.

He won 20 caps for Scotland and represented the Scottish Football League XI 14 times, then returned to Darvel to work in a lace-making business in which he was a partner.
