Reader's Guide
The match was goalless after 90 minutes, and Rangers had a goal disallowed. Franz Roth scored for Bayern in extra time to win it 1–0, Bayern's first European trophy. Rangers were then managed by Scot Symon, who left the club in October 1967.
Rangers reached the final by beating Glentoran, the holders Borussia Dortmund, Zaragoza on the toss of a coin, and Slavia Sofia. Six days earlier Celtic had won the European Cup in Lisbon, the first time two clubs from one city had contested both main European finals, which added to the pressure on Rangers.
