DJI Flip

Compact quadcopter for beginners with foldable arms and propeller guards.

Last updated

The DJI Flip (model DF1A0424) is a compact quadcopter drone designed for both personal and commercial aerial photography and videography. Released by Chinese manufacturer DJI in January 2025, it is marketed toward beginners. DJI describes the Flip as blending the ease of use of the DJI Neo with the imaging quality of the DJI Mini, though it is not intended to replace either model.

Slightly larger and heavier than the Neo, the Flip weighs just under 249 grams, compared to the Neo’s 135 grams. Its four arms fold for transport, similar to the DJI Mini, but it is the first folding DJI drone to include built-in propeller guards with carbon fiber spokes.

The drone carries a 48-megapixel camera with a 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor, mounted on a three-axis gimbal, capable of recording 4K HDR video at 60 frames per second. Obstacle avoidance is handled by forward and downward-facing lidar. A 3110 mAh battery provides a maximum flight time of 31 minutes.

Reviewers praised the Flip’s camera, comparing it to that of the Mini 4 Pro. However, criticism focused on its larger folded size relative to the Mini and its louder operation, despite ducted propellers. The propeller guards enable safe hand launches and landings, but flight tests showed they act like sails, reducing efficiency in windy conditions. Because of its weight, the Flip does not require registration in the United States and several other countries, but the absence of Remote ID prevents professional use.
