Reception
Rapid Racer received above-average reviews on GameRankings. Famitsu gave it a score of 27 out of 40. GameSpot criticized the narrow, limited courses but praised the hip-hop/techno music, favorably comparing it to Wipeout. Edge highlighted the fluid graphics and frame rate but found the gameplay unoriginal and the boat handling unrealistic and frustrating, calling it a technological showcase that falls short as a game. GamePro described the sounds as average and the controls as overly sensitive, adding to frustration. Next Generation stated that anyone who thinks the PlayStation is finished should check this game out.
