Development

Originally slated for a November 1995 release, the game was delayed into 1996 due to various changes and additions. Later Eurogamer writer Keith Stuart was commissioned to write an expansive backstory for the printed manual. A few months before release, the publisher cut the manual due to cost. In 2016, Stuart wrote that the publisher was right, as the backstory did not add anything and was indulgent.

Reception

GameSpot was positive, noting the title is not a simulation but an arcade game, and recommended it for arcade fans. A Next Generation critic praised the variety of vehicles and tracks and the use of real time graphics, remarking that low graphical detail made the game look chunky but allowed smooth play with six players. He criticized single-player AI for apparent cheating, with one racer always slightly ahead, and advised consumers to ensure they had a multiplayer partner before buying. Frank Snyder of Computer Game Review gave a positive score.
