Monument Valley: peyote, tanks and an atom bomb.
The desert of the American Southwest is the setting of the Preacher arc "War in the Sun". Jesse and his companions head to Monument Valley, Utah, where Jesse means to take peyote to trigger a vision of the secrets held by Genesis. The Saint of Killers and Herr Starr are waiting for him there, Starr with a tank battalion and an atom bomb.
Lore & Background
The Saint destroys the army, and Starr orders the atomic strike, which the Saint survives. The blast throws Jesse out of the aeroplane he is escaping in. A hermit finds him wandering the desert, delirious and missing an eye, with no memory of his encounter with God. Starr's helicopter also comes down in the desert, where the cannibal Chunt brothers eat his leg before he kills them.
