Cassidy Vampirism

An Irish vampire who prefers a pint to a victim.

Cassidy's vampirism dates from 1916, when he deserted the Easter Rising and was bitten by a hag. He survived injuries that looked fatal and found that the sun burned his skin. His eyes turned blood red, which is why he wears sunglasses.

Character
Cassidy

Lore & Background

As a vampire Cassidy has superhuman strength and speed, though no formal training. He survives any physical wound, feels the full pain of it, and heals very quickly, faster still when he drinks blood. Direct sunlight is the only thing that can kill him, and he can bear indirect exposure with discomfort. He needs blood to sustain himself, but it does not have to be human or fresh, and he prefers the taste of beer or whiskey.

Reader's Guide

Eccarius, the only other vampire in the comics, has no idea that a vampire can consume things other than blood or that sunlight is the one real weakness. At the end of the comics Cassidy walks into the sunrise and burns, and God brings him back as a mortal man. In the AMC series Eccarius is far more powerful and can fly, hypnotize and change shape.
