Voodoo, vampires and a search through the jazz bars for God.
New Orleans is a setting in both the Preacher comics and the AMC series. In the comics arc "Dixie Fried", Jesse, Tulip and Cassidy go there on Cassidy's advice to use voodoo to unlock the secrets of Genesis. An old friend of Cassidy's, a voodoo priest, agrees to help.
Lore & Background
The city is also home to Les Enfants du Sang, a gothic cult that worshipped the vampire Eccarius, a New Orleans native whom Cassidy killed in the one-shot Blood and Whiskey. The cult turns up at the cemetery where the voodoo ritual is held and beheads Cassidy before Jesse and Tulip kill its members. The trio leave New Orleans without answers and head for the American Southwest.
Reader's Guide
In the AMC series Jesse concludes that he might find God in New Orleans, and the three search its jazz bars for Him. Cassidy's aged son Denis lives in the city, and the Grail keeps an office there. Cassidy later returns to New Orleans, where he meets the Children of Blood. Part of the series was filmed in New Orleans.
