Gameplay
Gameplay in Football Manager 2008 follows the established pattern of the Football Manager series, putting the player in charge of a professional football team, as well as semi-professional, amateur, and international sides. The manager can sign players, handle club finances, and deliver team talks. The game simulates real-world management, with the player evaluated by the club's AI owners and board. New features include an advisor system, which functions similarly to assistant managers, and a revised finance system. Regarding licences, Sports Interactive secured a licence for the French Ligue de Football Professionnel covering both the 1st and 2nd divisions, providing real club names, logos, and kits. The Dutch national team also returned after being absent from the previous year's game, and new licences were obtained in Italy for Sampdoria and Fiorentina.
