Plot summary

The player controls the protagonist, default name Tatsuya, who sits on a bench with his best friend Miki. Tatsuya is absorbed in a PSP game and does not notice Miki is missing. Her dog Kratos leads him to her, unconscious from an unknown illness. Tatsuya wishes for her recovery, and a voice asks if he wants to save her. He agrees and enters an unknown land to collect five gems for the Traveler's Sword, so he can return home and restore Miki's health. The game is based on the novel Brave Story by Miyuki Miyabe; Tatsuya, Miki, and most of his party are original creations.

Gameplay

After completing the game and watching the credits, the player can save over their current playthrough. The new file is marked with a star and titled "Epilogue". Resuming from this file allows continued play from the last save point with access to the Roster feature under Settings. Roster lets the player place guest characters Wataru, Meena, Kee Keema, Mitsuru, and Kutz into the party at any time; these guests are at Level 60+ with new equipment and abilities. An extra area, The Earthrift, also becomes available.
