Career

Carlos Prates started his professional MMA career in 2012, but his first nine bouts were a mixed bag, leaving him with a 5-4 record. That rough patch came partly from fighting in the wrong weight class and not sticking to a disciplined training routine. Things turned around after he spent a long stretch in Thailand, sharpening his Muay Thai skills. He became a regular on the Asian MMA circuit, competing in promotions like China’s Chin Woo Men and Thailand’s Full Metal Dojo. In 2019, he joined ONE Championship’s Warrior Series, where a win over Gunther Kalunda helped him gain notice. By 2023, he had built a 15-6 record, which earned him a spot on Dana White's Contender Series. On Week 4 of Season 7, he knocked out his opponent in the second round and walked away with a UFC contract. His UFC debut came on February 10, 2024, at UFC Fight Night: Hermansson vs. Pyfer, where he faced Trevin Giles. Prates won by knockout in the second round and picked up a Performance of the Night bonus.

In Muay Thai, Prates had a busy run from 2016 to 2021. On April 2, 2016, he fought future Lethwei World Champion Dave Leduc at Rawai Boxing Stadium in Phuket, Thailand, losing by decision. On April 7, 2018, in Weifang, China, he beat Wu Sihan by unanimous decision. Later that month, on April 28, 2018, he stopped Jacob Ginter with a second-round knockout at Phoenix 7 in Phuket. He lost by decision to Zhou Wei on October 20, 2018, at the WLK - Xinhong Cup. On November 21, 2018, at Kunlun Fight in China, he knocked out Chen Zijun in the first round with a knee to the body. He then lost by decision to Glory veteran Dmitry Menshikov on December 22, 2018, at Muay Thai Factory 1. On December 15, 2019, he edged Jiao Fukai by split decision at Hongjian Cup in Taicang, China. On September 12, 2020, at Muay Hardcore, he knocked out former Rajadamnern Stadium champion Diesellek Seardammhooplara in the first round with a knee to the body. He beat Mansurbek Tolipov by unanimous decision on November 20, 2020, at UAM K-1 Combat, and Dmitry Valent by split decision on June 25, 2021, at Muaythai Night 6. On November 6, 2021, he captured the SFT Xtreme Welterweight title by knocking out Dengue Silva in the fifth round with a body punch.
