Puddleglum
The gloomy marsh-wiggle guide of The Silver Chair.
Puddleglum is a Marsh-wiggle, a species Lewis invented for The Silver Chair, in which he is a principal character; he is also mentioned at the end of The Last Battle. He is the only Marsh-wiggle given a name or dialogue.

Lore & Background
Puddleglum is gloomy and pessimistic, called a "wet blanket" by others, though he says other Marsh-wiggles are gloomier still. He guides Eustace Scrubb and Jill Pole on their search for Prince Rilian. Lewis said his gardener Fred Paxford was the model for the character, and took the name from John Studley's 16th-century translation of Seneca's Phaedra, which renders "of silent Styx" as "from Stygian puddle glum".
