Lore & Background
At some point while the Pevensies were gone, a mound was raised over the broken table; Lewis never says who built it or why. This mound, Aslan's How, takes its name from the Old Norse haugr, a hill or mound. In Prince Caspian the runaway Caspian and his allies shelter inside the How, and it holds as a fortress when Miraz's army surrounds it, until the Pevensies and Aslan return. Theologically the table stands for the cross, and Aslan's death on it for Edmund's treachery alludes to the crucifixion.
