The ring's holders have historically been drawn to it by ambition or survival, and the Kwami Plagg has watched each one with the detached amusement of a cat observing a mouse it has decided not to chase.

Plagg's personality is the antithesis of a 'noble spirit.' He is vain, lazy, and perpetually hungry—especially for cheese, which he treats as both sustenance and moral currency. He speaks in operatic, self-aggrandizing sentences, refers to himself in the third person at dramatic moments, and will absolutely prioritize a nap over a battle if the holder is not sufficiently insistent. In the modern storyline, the Cat Miraculous is central to the dynamic between Cat Noir and Ladybug. Adrien crouched on the edge of a zinc chimney, the black ring cool against his finger, and felt Plagg's small, warm weight shift in the pocket of his suit. A siren wailed somewhere below. Somewhere, a box was glowing.

"You are going to save them again, are you not, my little fashion victim?" Plagg's voice curled up from the pocket, theatrical and tired, like a cat stretching after a nap interrupted by a doorbell.

Adrien didn't answer. He never did. He just swung off the roof, claws scraping a thin white line in the air, and let the city fall away beneath him. The bell at his throat chimed once, soft as a secret, and the rain-slicked world turned to a blur of neon and shadow. Below, a crowd was scattering. Above, the ring pulsed—patient, ancient, waiting for the word that would unmake the world. He hadn't said it yet. He never said it yet. Not until he absolutely had to.

The Cat Miraculous takes the form of a sleek black ring, worn on the finger, its surface smooth and unadorned except for a faint feline motif. Its Kwami, Plagg, is a small, plump, black-and-white cat-like spirit with large expressive eyes, a theatrical manner of speech, and an insatiable love of cheese—particularly brie. He is lazy, vain, and prone to dramatic monologues, yet fiercely loyal once a bond is formed.

Rules and weaknesses: Cataclismo is a one-way destructive force and cannot be selectively 'undone' once activated on a living target; the holder must be conscious and willing to use the power. Plagg will resist or refuse to assist if the holder's actions conflict with his own (extremely limited) moral code, most notably his love of cheese and his desire to nap. The Cat Miraculous, when combined with the Ladybug Miraculous, unlocks a far more powerful unified ability, but this requires both holders to act in concert and places enormous strain on both Kwami. The ring cannot be used to destroy another Miraculous directly, a limitation that has shaped the central conflict of the series.
