Below, the city glittered—indifferent, beautiful, alive. He flexed his fingers, feeling the faint static hum of Cataclysm coiled beneath his skin, and let out a breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding since the akuma was gone.

"You're doing the thing again," Plagg mumbled, licking a crumb of cheese off his lip. "The brooding. The looking-at-the-river. The 'I-am-a-lonely-cat-on-a-rooftop' thing."

Adrien almost smiled. Almost. "I'm thinking."

"You're thinking about her."

He said nothing. The Seine kept moving. Somewhere below, a bakery's oven ticked and cooled, and a girl with wild pink hair was probably still awake, sketching designs in her notebook, never knowing that the cat who'd just saved her was the same boy who'd tripped over his own feet in homeroom that morning. He pressed his thumb to the stone, feeling its ancient grain, and let the night hold him a little longer before the mask came off and the boy had to go back inside the walls his father built.
