Spiderbugs (the Spiders)

The spiderbugs, usually just called spiders, are arachnid-like mutants that appear in Metro: Last Light and Metro Exodus; they are not in the original Metro 2033. They combine the features of a spider and a scorpion and, unlike real arachnids, are deadly vulnerable to light: caught in a flashlight beam they smoke, turn a reddish black and scurry out of the light, only to come back once they are in the dark again. Large spiders are first seen in the Last Light chapter Reich and first fought in Torchlight. Adults have an armoured shell that stops bullets and must be flipped onto their backs by exposing them to light, while the weaker brown hatchlings can simply be shot; the males carry a scorpion-like stinger. Switching on every light in an area creates safe zones to fall back to.
