Turn-based MMORPG
Turn-based MMORPGs combine strategy with multiplayer online worlds.
A turn-based MMORPG is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game that partitions game actions into well-defined turns, allowing players a period of analysis before committing to an action. This separation between game flow and thinking process distinguishes it from real-time games. While many such games are text-based, a few, like Atlantica Online, feature fully animated graphics.

Text-based and browser games
Many multiplayer browser games provide players a set number of turns that replenish at fixed time intervals or through in-game items. Early BBS door games were turn-based, and browser games using server-side scripting operate on similar principles. Most depict the game world with text or a mix of text and still images. Kingdom of Loathing gives players a new allotment of turns each day, playing like traditional turn-based role-playing video games.
Graphical games
Turn-based combat is uncommon in fully animated graphical multiplayer RPGs. Ankama Games created Dofus, Dofus Arena, and Wakfu, which are tactical turn-based titles with isometric sprite visuals. Atlantica Online, a strategic turn-based MMORPG from 2008, gives players 30 seconds per turn to command their characters, keeping battles fast. Darkwind: War on Wheels is a 3D car-combat MMORPG where each turn represents one second of simulated time, also using 30-second command windows and physics-based movement. Concerto Gate blends turn-based and real-time combat like Final Fantasy's Active Time Battle system. Wizard101 and Pirate101 are 3D turn-based MMORPGs with card and board game mechanics. Toontown Online, a 3D turn-based game set in Disney's cartoon world, is no longer officially running but lives on through fan-run servers.
