Development
Sandbox Interactive, based in Berlin, developed and published the game. During beta testing, players could purchase Founder's Packs for access to intermittent closed beta play-tests; these packs were removed after release. In December 2015, Albion Online temporarily removed its free-to-play model. Upon its initial release on July 17, 2017, the game offered Starter Packs that granted access and varying amounts of gold, with no further mandatory fees; players could also buy limited-time membership without Starter Pack benefits. By April 2019, the game returned to a free-to-play model, and players can purchase premium using in-game gold and silver. A second server, initially named Albion East and later renamed Albion Asia, opened in Singapore in March 2023. A server for Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa launched on April 29, 2024.
