Plot and setting
The expansion takes place in Khitai following Conan's mercy killing of Yag-Kosha, the "Elephant God," who had been tortured for centuries by his student, the sorcerer Yara. This act earned Conan the name "Godslayer." Yara was later killed by the Heart of the Elephant jewel. After Conan became king, strange events began plaguing Khitai. Players explore the empire's dark roads, following the Godslayer's path through a mature story of brutal conflict and political intrigue. Khitai is an ancient eastern empire on the Hyborian continent, a haven for the world's greatest wizards. It possesses a strong army and leadership in Paikang, Shu-Chen, and Ruo-Chen. Khitai is in constant war with southern Kambuja, whose god-kings compete for supremacy in the Scarlet Circle's arcane secrets. Its western border is the Great Wall and its mountain range, which runs from icy northern wastes to the Southern Sea. The region has an Asiatic feel and contains many high-level dungeons, including the level 80 Jade Citadel raid.
Critical reception
Critics generally liked the expansion. It holds an 83 out of 100 on Metacritic from 14 reviews, meaning "generally favorable" notices. IGN scored it 7.9/10. GameSpot gave it 8.5/10, calling it an absolute delight despite some monotony. Eurogamer awarded it 8/10 in a second review that praised the environment details, after withdrawing its first review because the original reviewer lacked sufficient time.
