Nanachi

A rabbit-like Hollow who joins Riko and Reg.

Nanachi is a Hollow with rabbit-like features in Made in Abyss. As a human child Nanachi lived in the slums, scavenging for food and books and learning to read the ancient glyphs, until Bondrewd recruited the child with the promise of Cave Raider training.

Background

On the way down Nanachi befriended a girl named Mitty, and Bondrewd sent both to the sixth layer in one of his experiments: Nanachi came back partly stripped of humanity, Mitty entirely so. Nanachi escaped his laboratory with Mitty, later meets Riko and Reg on the fourth layer, and agrees to travel with them to the lower layers. The author leaves Nanachi's gender deliberately open, and the English translator avoids gendered pronouns for the character.
