5th Layer: Sea of Corpses
The frozen sea layer guarded by Ido Front.
The fifth layer of the Abyss, the Sea of Corpses, is a vast frozen wasteland around a huge sea filled with primeval creatures and strewn with bones. Only 1,000 metres deep but the widest layer, it is the last from which a delver can return to the surface without losing their humanity or dying.
Background
Few who reach it come back. Bondrewd's research station Ido Front stands at the bottom of the layer and guards the way into the sixth; its Altar of the Absolute Boundary, which only a White Whistle can activate, is the official route down.
