Lore & Background

Established in 1959 as a charter member of the American Football League (AFL), the Chiefs started playing in 1960 as the Dallas Texans, owned by league founder Lamar Hunt. In 1963, the team moved to Kansas City and adopted its current name. The Chiefs joined the NFL in 1970 as a result of the AFL–NFL merger. The team has won three AFL championships (1962, 1966, 1969) and four Super Bowls: IV (January 1970, for the 1969 season), LIV (2020), LVII (2023), and LVIII (2024). The Chiefs' most famous and historically significant rivalry is with the Las Vegas Raiders.

In Their Own Story

The wind howls across the Missouri plains, but inside Arrowhead Stadium, the air vibrates with a different frequency. Thousands of scarlet-clad voices rise in unison, a tidal wave of sound crashing against the opposing sideline. A veteran fan, his face painted in gold and red, grips the railing as the crowd begins the rhythmic chop. The noise is deafening, a physical force that shakes the bleachers, yet it feels like home. In this sea of believers, history breathes; memories of past glory mix with the electric anticipation of the present, binding strangers together in a single, pulsating heartbeat of loyalty.

Reader's Guide

The Chiefs have risen to dynastic success under head coach Andy Reid, quarterback Patrick Mahomes, tight end Travis Kelce, and defensive tackle Chris Jones, appearing in five Super Bowls since 2019 and winning three: LIV, LVII, and LVIII. The team's home games are played at Arrowhead Stadium.
