Reader's Guide

The narrative begins with Dr. Ian Malcolm being asked by John Hammond to help document the dinosaurs of Isla Sorna; he agrees to go only to retrieve his girlfriend, paleontologist Sarah Harding. Ludlow and a mercenary team then arrive on the island to capture dinosaurs, intending to ship them to San Diego for a new Jurassic Park. Eddie Carr, the expedition's equipment specialist and engineer, is devoured by the adult Tyrannosaurs while trying to rescue Ian, Sarah and Nick from their trailer. Both groups lose their communication equipment and are forced to work together, travelling to an abandoned InGen base to call for help. The climax occurs when the ship carrying the captured male Tyrannosaurus crashes into the docks at the Port of San Diego. The adult is accidentally released and rampages through the city until Ian and Sarah use its infant to lure it back into the ship's cargo hold.

• Isla Sorna was originally known as Site B and served as InGen's primary breeding facility before the park opened on Isla Nublar.
• Although the Tyrannosaurus rampage is set in San Diego, the filmmakers decided against shooting there; the city's downtown nighttime skyline accounts for the only footage shot in San Diego.
