Reader's Guide
The narrative begins with Paul and Amanda Kirby offering to fund Dr. Alan Grant's research in return for a guided aerial tour of Isla Sorna. Grant flies there with his assistant Billy Brennan and learns that the Kirbys are in fact searching for their son Eric, missing for eight weeks. A Spinosaurus attacks their plane during take-off and it crashes in the forest; the survivors flee and encounter a Tyrannosaurus, which the Spinosaurus promptly defeats. Grant is saved from a pack of Velociraptors by Eric, and the group later escapes a flock of Pteranodons in an aviary. The U.S. Marines and Navy, summoned by Ellie Sattler, land on the beach and rescue the survivors.
