The Cloning Facility refers to the genetic laboratories of International Genetic Technologies, Inc. (InGen): Site B on Isla Sorna, where the dinosaurs were cloned before being moved to the park, and the park's own laboratory on Isla Nublar. These high-security complexes were designed to resurrect extinct dinosaur species using prehistoric DNA recovered from amber-encased mosquitoes.

The fictional resurrection process began by extracting ancient DNA from mosquitoes preserved in amber. To complete fragmented genetic sequences, scientists spliced in frog DNA. This amphibian material allows the dinosaurs to change sex, making reproduction possible. All the animals were engineered as female, one of the measures in place to prevent breeding.
