Golden Wind (manga)

The fifth story arc of *JoJo's Bizarre Adventure*, written and illustrated by Hirohiko Araki, is titled *Golden Wind* (also called *Vento Aureo*). It ran in Shueisha's *Weekly Shōnen Jump* from December 11, 1995, to April 5, 1999. During its original run, the series' title appeared in Italian as *Le Bizzarre Avventure di GioGio*. Its 155 chapters, numbered 440 through 594, pick up directly after the fourth arc, *Diamond Is Unbreakable*, and precede the sixth, *Stone Ocean*. The collected volumes span numbers 47 to 63. An anime adaptation by David Production aired from October 2018 to July 2019. Viz Media released an English hardcover edition in nine omnibus volumes between August 2021 and August 2023.

Set in Italy during 2001, the plot centers on Giorno Giovanna, the illegitimate son of the deceased Dio Brando. He aims to take control of the corrupt mafia, Passione, that rules his hometown of Naples, and he enlists a team of fellow Stand users to help him.

In 2001, Koichi Hirose travels to Naples to look into a teenager named Haruno Shiobana, whom Jotaro Kujo believes is Dio Brando's son. Koichi is quickly tricked by Haruno, who now calls himself Giorno Giovanna. Giorno's Stand, Gold Experience, can create life and heal wounds. A mafioso with a Stand, Bruno Bucciarati, tries to get revenge for an injury Giorno caused to a Passione member. Bucciarati is defeated but becomes convinced by Giorno's dream of becoming Passione's boss to stop drug trafficking and improve Naples. Bucciarati agrees to introduce Giorno to an imprisoned capo named Polpo, who gives an initiation test using a Stand Arrow—its blade either kills or grants a Stand. After convincing Koichi to drop his investigation, Giorno uses his Stand to kill Polpo from a distance as payback for an innocent person's death.

Giorno joins Bucciarati's group, which includes Stand users Guido Mista, Leone Abbacchio, Narancia Ghirga, and Pannacotta Fugo. Polpo's apparent suicide lets Bucciarati become a capo by donating Polpo's fortune on Capri to a gang representative. Bucciarati then receives Polpo's final mission: Passione's mysterious boss, whose identity is unknown even to his subordinates, orders that his daughter Trish Una be brought safely to him in Venice. Along the way, the team eliminates all but one of Passione's hitmen, who want to use Trish to find and defeat the boss themselves.
