Diamond Is Unbreakable

The fourth major story arc of the manga *JoJo's Bizarre Adventure*, created by Hirohiko Araki, ran in *Weekly Shōnen Jump* from May 4, 1992, to December 4, 1995. Its 174 chapters were compiled into eighteen volumes. This part introduces the Stand Arrow, an item that grants a Stand to anyone mentally strong enough to survive being pierced by it. The Arrow was later revealed to be the origin of both Dio’s Stand and the Stands of the Joestar family. David Production adapted the arc into an anime series starting in April 2016, and a live-action film by Toho and Warner Bros. came out on August 4, 2017. Viz Media released an English-language manga edition in nine volumes from 2019 to 2021.

In 1999, Jotaro Kujo arrives in the town of Morioh after learning his grandfather Joseph Joestar has an illegitimate son while compiling a list of beneficiaries. He meets a freshman named Koichi Hirose, then finds the youth he seeks: high school student Josuke Higashikata, whose Stand Crazy Diamond can manipulate matter, including repairing and healing. After Josuke fights Jotaro for insulting his pompadour, Jotaro explains Stands and warns that a death row inmate named Anjuro “Angelo” Katagiri has escaped to Morioh using one. Josuke unknowingly makes an enemy of Angelo, who murders Josuke’s grandfather. Josuke then fuses Angelo into a rock, but Angelo’s final moments reveal someone hit him with an Arrow, giving him his Stand. Jotaro learns the Arrow was once in Dio’s possession. Josuke and Koichi later confront the culprit, Keicho Nijimura, who stabs Koichi with the Arrow while his brother Okuyasu holds Josuke off. Josuke defeats Okuyasu and heals Koichi, who develops the Stand Echoes. After Keicho explains he created Stand users to find someone who could mercy-kill his father—a mutated subordinate of Dio’s—Keicho is killed by the Stand Red Hot Chili Pepper, which takes the Bow and Arrow. Okuyasu joins Josuke’s group to avenge his brother. They encounter other Stand users Keicho created before defeating Akira Otoishi, Red Hot Chili Pepper’s user, as Joseph arrives in Morioh. The Bow and Arrow are taken into Jotaro’s custody.

Later, Josuke spends time with Joseph, and they find a baby with an invisibility Stand. The group meets more Stand users: eccentric manga artist Rohan Kishibe, middle schooler Shigekiyo “Shigechi” Yangu, and beautician Aya Tsuji.
