Lego Horizon Adventures

Lego Horizon Adventures is a 2024 action-adventure game that reimagines the story of *Horizon Zero Dawn* (2017) within a Lego-built world. It was co-developed by Guerrilla Games and Studio Gobo, working with The Lego Group, and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The game launched on 14 November 2024 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Windows.

Players control one of four characters—Aloy, Varl, Erend, or Teersa—from a fixed isometric viewpoint. They fight against the rogue artificial intelligence HADES and a sun-worshipping cult led by Helis. The gameplay mixes linear platforming with combat that uses the series’ signature weak-point targeting system. Between missions, players return to the central hub village, Mother’s Heart, where they can spend studs and bricks to unlock decorations and outfits from various Lego themes. The game supports both local and online two-player cooperative multiplayer.

Guerrilla and Studio Gobo designed the game as a family-friendly version of the original’s darker story. It was built with Unreal Engine 5, with every in-game asset constructed from individual digital Lego bricks and characters animated in a stop-motion style. Several original voice actors from the *Horizon* series returned, including Ashly Burch as Aloy.

The game received mixed reviews. Critics praised its visuals and vocal performances but found the level design repetitive, the mission structure too simple, and the lack of open-world exploration disappointing. It earned several industry nominations, including Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction at the 28th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards and four nominations at the 21st British Academy Games Awards.

**Gameplay**

As an action-adventure game, *Lego Horizon Adventures* uses a fixed isometric camera. Players choose from four protagonists: Aloy with her bow, Varl with a spear, Erend with a hammer, or Teersa with explosive bombs. Missions are largely linear, combining exploration, platforming through mechanical ruins, and combat arenas against machines and human cultists. Combat retains the weak-point targeting system, letting players highlight machine components for extra damage. Health is restored by collecting berries from bushes, and players can use environmental hazards like explosive barrels or set arrows on fire for elemental effects.
