Distractions
Pulling a guard or a target off his routine.
A distraction is a gameplay feature first introduced in Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, improved in Hitman: Blood Money and central to Hitman: Absolution and the World of Assassination trilogy. Distractions lure characters or targets to a chosen spot, breaking their routine so that 47 can slip past a guard or catch a target alone.

Background
In the earlier games distractions were mostly scripted spots such as utility boxes or alarmed display cabinets. The first freely usable ones are the pager and mobile phone of Silent Assassin's Tubeway Torpedo, which only the target is scripted to answer. The second is the Smoke Bomb of Basement Killing: dropped down a laundry chute into the basement, it brings the fire department and distracts the guards. Any method of luring someone from one place to another counts as a distraction.
