Disguise

Taking another man's clothes to go where he goes.

Disguises are a vital part of gameplay in the Hitman series. By taking the clothes of an incapacitated or dead character, Agent 47 gains privileges he would not otherwise have, chiefly access to restricted areas and permission to carry weapons that suit the role.

Background

When 47 changes, the clothes he was wearing are left behind, and the more prestigious the disguise, the more of a level it opens; some allow actions otherwise impossible, such as performing the wedding ceremony in Till Death Do Us Part. Most are those of workers or guards, and in the earlier games guards see through a disguise if he stays close to them too long. In Absolution and the World of Assassination certain disguises are needed to use particular hiding spots. In Hitman: Contracts' Hunter and Hunted, the paramedic disguise keeps 47 above suspicion even near the police, letting him run past them.
