Unlike our real-world institution, this college operates under the shadow of the Magisterium, the dominant religious authority that exerts strong control over society. The story begins here in 1995's Northern Lights, where an eleven-year-old Lyra witnesses a poisoning attempt on her uncle, Lord Asriel, setting the stage for a journey that spans parallel universes.

Jordan College serves as the epicenter of early conflict in Northern Lights.
