Playing career

Yeremeyev entered the NHL draft in 1994, going 209th overall in the ninth round to the New York Rangers. This came after his third year with Torpedo Ust-Kamenogorsk, where he was named the best goalie in the Kazakhstan Hockey Championship. He then spent three seasons with CSKA Moscow, putting up a remarkable 1.66 goals-against average over 25 games in 1995-96. Over the next few years, he moved around the league, playing for Lokomotiv Yaroslavl and again for CSKA Moscow before settling with Dynamo Moscow. In 2000, he led the club to a league championship, recording a 1.24 GAA in 26 regular-season games and an impressive 1.27 GAA in the playoffs. The following year, he earned a chance to play in the NHL with the Rangers, but he could not match his earlier form and went back to Russia to rejoin Dynamo Moscow. During the 2004-05 season, he captured another Russian Superleague title with Moscow and also took home the league’s best goalie award. His playoff performance that year was even sharper, as he started ten games and allowed just 0.90 goals per game. He remained with Dynamo Moscow for five more years before being traded to Barys Astana in 2010.

International play

When it comes to representing Kazakhstan in net, no goalie has done it more often than Vitali Yeremeyev. He shared the ice with Evgeni Nabokov for three seasons at Torpedo Ust-Kamenogorsk, and the 1994 World Championships marked the only time Nabokov played for Kazakhstan. Yeremeyev appeared in two Olympic Games and ten World Championships. His finest moment arrived at the 1998 Winter Olympics, where he backstopped a surprising Kazakh squad to the quarterfinals before Canada defeated them 4–1.
