Cole Cassels

Playing career

Cassels began his early years with the Ohio AAA Blue Jackets. He later played junior hockey for the Oshawa Generals, winning the Memorial Cup with them in 2015. The Vancouver Canucks selected him in the third round, 85th overall, of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, and he signed an entry-level contract with the Canucks that same year. After his rookie contract ended, having played only for the Utica Comets in the AHL, the Canucks did not give him a qualifying offer, making him a free agent on June 25, 2018. On July 31, 2018, he signed his first contract abroad, a one-year deal with Grizzlys Wolfsburg of the German DEL. In the 2018–19 season, he recorded 23 points in 50 games for Wolfsburg, then left as a free agent on March 8, 2019. For the 2019–20 season, he attended Belleville Senators training camp but was released; he then signed with the Utah Grizzlies of the ECHL on October 2, 2019, playing 7 games and getting 10 points. On November 1, 2019, he returned to Belleville on a professional tryout, appearing in 24 games with 3 goals and 8 points. On January 4, 2020, he signed an AHL contract with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins for the rest of the season. After that contract ended, he re-signed with Belleville on a one-year AHL deal on October 29, 2020. On July 30, 2021, he agreed to a one-year contract with the Cleveland Monsters. On July 26, 2022, he signed a one-year contract with Södertälje SK of the HockeyAllsvenskan in Sweden, recording 2 assists in 13 games before leaving to rejoin the Belleville Senators on a one-year contract on November 2, 2022.
