Playing career

Lucas Wallmark began his professional career in Sweden's top league, Elitserien, with Skellefteå AIK in the 2012–13 season. The following year, he moved to league rival Luleå HF, where he played for three seasons. On June 11, 2015, he inked a three-year entry-level deal with the Carolina Hurricanes. His first NHL goal came on December 30, 2017, against the St. Louis Blues. After being sent down to the Charlotte Checkers on January 8, 2018, he was voted the team's most valuable player following their exit from the 2018 Calder Cup playoffs. In the 2019–20 season, Wallmark posted a personal best of 11 goals in 60 games before the Hurricanes traded him at the deadline on February 24, 2020. He was part of a package—alongside Erik Haula, Eetu Luostarinen, and Chase Priskie—sent to the Florida Panthers for Vincent Trocheck. With the Panthers, he notched one goal and one assist in seven regular-season contests before the COVID-19 pandemic halted play. He returned for two scoreless postseason qualifying games. As a restricted free agent, the Panthers declined to give him a qualifying offer on October 8, 2020. Four days later, he signed a one-year, $950,000 contract with the Chicago Blackhawks. The pandemic-delayed 2020–21 season saw him struggle, managing only three assists in 16 games. On April 6, 2021, he was placed on waivers and assigned to the taxi squad. Two days after that, the Blackhawks traded him back to the Panthers, along with Lucas Carlsson, for Brett Connolly, Riley Stillman, the rights to Henrik Borgström, and a seventh-round pick in the 2021 draft. In his second stint with Florida, he went pointless in four regular-season games and spent most of the playoffs on the taxi squad. Facing free agency again, Wallmark left the NHL on June 15, 2021, signing a one-year deal with HC CSKA Moscow of the KHL. During the 2021–22 season, he adapted quickly, recording eight goals and 19 points in 31 games. He appeared in two playoff games before terminating his contract on March 4, 2022, due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. That summer, on May 16, 2022, he signed a three-year contract with the ZSC Lions of Switzerland's National League.
