Ivan Telegin

Playing career

Telegin played for Russia at the 2010 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships, where the team finished sixth, while he was skating in North America for the Saginaw Spirit and Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League. When the Atlanta Thrashers moved and became the Winnipeg Jets, his NHL rights went with them, and on 26 July 2011 he signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Jets. He was sent back to the OHL for the next season, then made his North American pro debut in 2012–13 with the Jets' AHL affiliate, the St. John's IceCaps. That season, he managed only 3 goals and 10 points in 34 games because ongoing concussion problems and post-concussion symptoms slowed him down. Those symptoms carried into the off-season, and on 29 September 2013, the Jets suspended him after he refused to report to the IceCaps for the start of the 2013–14 season. On 13 January 2014, with Telegin determined to stay in Russia, Winnipeg lifted the suspension and assigned him to CSKA Moscow of the KHL. He ended up missing the entire 2013–14 season due to the contract dispute and his lingering concussion issues. After that lost year, he played 31 games for CSKA Moscow in the KHL during 2014–15, battling for ice time in a bottom-six role and putting up three goals and one assist. He chose to stay in the KHL, signing a new three-year deal with CSKA Moscow on 7 June 2016. On 18 May 2021, Telegin left CSKA as a free agent and inked a two-year contract with Avangard Omsk, who were the reigning champions.
