Playing career

Fedor Fedorov first entered the NHL draft in 1999, when the Tampa Bay Lightning picked him in the sixth round, 182nd overall. Tampa Bay never signed him within the two-year window they held his rights, so he went back into the draft in 2001. This time, the Vancouver Canucks selected him in the third round, 66th overall. Fedorov played 15 games in the NHL for the Canucks and spent 116 games with their top minor league team, the Manitoba Moose. On March 24, 2004, he was part of an off-ice incident with teammate Kevin Bieksa. Canucks general manager Brian Burke later explained that several Moose players were out together when Bieksa accidentally knocked over Fedorov’s beer. Bieksa apologized and offered to buy a replacement, but Fedorov challenged him to a fight outside. Bieksa knocked him down with a single punch. This incident helped Bieksa earn an NHL contract with the Canucks, where he played for ten seasons. On October 7, 2005, Vancouver traded Fedorov to the New York Rangers in exchange for Jozef Balej and a sixth-round pick in the 2008 draft. Fedorov appeared in only three games for the Rangers, spending most of his time with their AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack. On July 25, 2006, he signed with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl of the Russian Superleague. Later that season, he moved to the Malmö Redhawks of the Swedish Elitserien. On July 4, 2008, Fedorov signed an NHL contract with the New Jersey Devils. He did not make the Devils’ NHL roster and, after refusing to report to their AHL affiliate, the Lowell Devils, the team released him. On October 22, 2008, he signed with Nizhnekamsk Neftekhimik of the newly formed Kontinental Hockey League. He later played for Metallurg Magnitogorsk and then spent the 2011–2013 seasons with SKA Saint Petersburg. In the 2013 offseason, he signed with CSKA Moscow. After one season there, on October 2, 2014, he signed a one-year contract as a free agent with HC Lada Togliatti.
