Upon waking, the Didact perceives humans not as potential successors but as a virus similar to the Flood. He deploys his army of Promethean constructs to hunt down human forces and seeks to utilize the Composer device. This ancient weapon allows him to scan biological lifeforms and upload their consciousness into a digital state, effectively ending their physical existence while preserving their data for the Mantle's archives.

In Their Own Story

Cold silence filled the chamber until the containment field flickered. Light pierced the darkness as the stasis pod hissed open, steam venting into the recycled air of the Mantle's Approach. The Ur-Didact stood, his armor shifting and locking into place with mechanical precision. He sensed the presence of the new species through the ship's sensors—fragile, loud, and dangerous. They had touched the rings again. His hand tightened around the hilt of his energy sword as he stepped onto the bridge, ready to cleanse the galaxy.

Reader's Guide

This action inadvertently triggers ancient safety protocols aboard the Mantle's Approach, waking the Ur-Didact from millennia of stasis. Believing humanity to be a new strain of the Flood, he deploys his Promethean constructs against the UNSC Infinity. Master Chief is deployed to investigate the signal and confronts the Didact on Requiem. The Didact seeks to use the Composer to digitize human consciousness, sparing them from destruction while removing their threat to the galaxy. The conflict escalates as the Mantle's Approach moves toward Earth to compose the entire species. Master Chief infiltrates the ship during its final approach through a slipspace breach. In a climactic duel within the vessel, Chief overcomes the Didact using Forerunner technology and sheer determination. The Didact is slain by an energy blade strike, ending his campaign for vengeance against humanity.
