Unggoy
The Grunts: the Covenant's short, methane-breathing foot soldiers.
The Unggoy, nicknamed Grunts by humans, are short, methane-breathing bipeds that serve as the Covenant's basic foot soldiers. Squat and cowardly, they panic and flee if their commanders are killed, though they can threaten the player in groups on higher difficulties.

Lore & Background
In Halo: Reach Grunts are described as less intelligent and dangerous only in large groups, and their redesign came from a sketch concept artist Shi Kai Wang drew ten years earlier. A Combat Evolved Anniversary preorder bonus, the Grunt Funeral skull, makes them explode on death.
