Tartarus climbed the ranks during the height of the Human-Covenant War, distinguished by his towering frame clad in jagged armor and unwavering loyalty to the High Prophets. When Covenant leadership deemed the Sangheili too unstable due to their growing skepticism regarding the Great Journey, Tartarus executed the purge with ruthless efficiency. He led the coup on High Charity, utilizing the newly formed Brute Shock Troops to slaughter or enslave the Elites, seizing control of the capital and its fleet. His strategic mind was often overshadowed by brutality, yet he proved capable of manipulating ancient protocols to further the Covenant's goals. On Installation 04 (Alpha Halo), Tartarus sought to activate the ring, believing it a path to salvation. Later, when Truth revealed the rings were weapons designed to kill all sentient life rather than save them, Tartarus did not falter; instead, he resolved to fire them himself, convinced that controlling the trigger would allow his people to ascend as the new gods of the galaxy.
