Lore & Background
The climate is cold, with hard winters and snow common in any season; beyond the Wall it turns polar. Its northern edge is the Gift, a strip 50 leagues wide given to the Night's Watch and now full of towns and farms abandoned because of wildling raids.
Reader's Guide
The lizard-lions of the Neck's wetlands make the causeway the only practical way through, which is why Moat Cailin guards the North so well.
