Porophryne erythrodactylus, known as the red-fingered anglerfish, red-footed frogfish, Bare Island anglerfish or Sydney anglerfish, is the only species in the monospecific genus Porophryne. It is a marine ray-finned fish belonging to the subfamily Histiophryninae in the family Antennariidae, the frogfishes, and is endemic to the waters off New South Wales in eastern Australia. The species is notable for being described as both a new genus and new species in 2014, and for possessing a unique tuft of filaments on the midline of the lower lip, a feature not known from any other anglerfish.

The species was first photographed by Robert Geoffrey Harcourt and sent to the Australian Museum for identification. Staff could not identify it, so the image was forwarded to anglerfish expert Theodore Wells Pietsch III, who suggested it represented not only a new species but a new genus. Harcourt and two friends obtained permits from the Department of Primary Industries in New South Wales, collected a single specimen, and sent it for formal description by Arnold, Harcourt and Pietsch in 2014. The genus name Porophryne combines 'poro' (meaning 'having pores', alluding to black spots resembling sponge oscula) and 'phryne' ('toad', a common suffix in anglerfish genera). The specific name erythrodactylus means 'red fingers', referring to the red tips of the fin rays on the pectoral and other fins.

Porophryne is separated from its sister genus Kuiterichthys by a completely different morphology of the second dorsal spine: slender at the base, suddenly expanded to the sides and becoming almost quadrangular. It also has an obvious tuft of filaments on the midline of the lower lip, possibly an additional lure, a feature unknown in any other anglerfish. The fish has two color phases: one grey with scattered black spots lacking denticles, and another orange, red, pink, white, or a combination, without black spots but with skin appendages. The illicium (first dorsal spine) is equal in length to the second dorsal spine, and the large oval esca (lure) is tipped by two tufts of short filaments. The whole body is covered in dermal denticles except for the black spots.

Porophryne is known only from scattered localities between Sydney Harbour and Jervis Bay, including Indian Point, Botany Bay at 6 m depth, Bare Island sponge gardens at 14 m, South Head at 10 m, one guarding eggs at Bass Point Shellharbour, and the Middleground in Jervis Bay at 24 m. It inhabits rocky-reef habitats below the low tide mark, dominated by leafy and filamentous seaweed, and is most closely associated with small sponges. The fish achieves camouflage by resembling the algae-covered sponges in its habitat.
